  1. Hi Larry,

that's some serious action! If you don't mind company, I'm game. I fish from a kayak too and live in Daytona.

    1. Eno,
I am getting a lot of people contacting me with interest in fishing in the surf from a kayak. It's not for everyone though and not one of the safest sports you can take up. Tell me a little about yourself, eperience, etc. maybe a few pics of fish you have caught.

In the surf I mostly target tarpon in the pogy pods. the problem with this is you never know what your going to find when you get to the beach. Sometimes they are there and sometimes not. Many times we get there, don't see what we are looking for and don't even put in so it's a difficult thing to schedule and I always feel bad when someone has to drive a long ways to get here and we don't even launch.

Anyway, send me a little info. and we will see though there is only 4-5 weeks left for the tarpon thing at this point.

      Thanks Larry s.

  2. Hi Larry,

I fished from a kayak for 3 years down in South Florida. Most of my fishing was with other kayakers for safety. We would start trolling immediately after launching from the surf (rigged ballyhoo and diving plugs) until reaching the closest reef/wreck which can were much closer than here (1-2 miles out).
Then we would do some bottom fishing for a while for snapper, grouper, triggerfish, Spanish mackerel, Kingfish, amberjack… using a variety of rigs including jigs.
Sometimes we arranged cars in Delray Beach and Boynton Beach so we would drift with the current for about 10 miles hitting multiple wrecks previously saved in our GPS/Fishfinders.
My best catch so far has been a 20lbs Kingfish (which you can see on my avatar) trolling a rigged ballyhoo not even 100 yards from the surf.
Since returning back to Daytona, I haven’t done much offshore fishing because of the fact that the reefs here are much further way. However, from what I see from your blog, you can still have a blast during the summer months when the ocean is calm and the bait is around.
I do a lot of surf fishing in Ormond by the Sea and there have been times I wished I had brought the kayak along to reach the mullet pods being slammed by jack crevalles.
I’m game for inshore fishing as well, Mosquito lagoon, Tomoka, Halifax, Spruce creek…
I have plenty of pictures to send but I don’t have your email.
I’m available on weekends and Friday afternoons.
    Regards,
    Eno

  3. Henor,
sounds like you have some experience! unfortunately, your right...we don't have any reef's near shore up here. I have been wanting to plan a trip to the west coast near tampa, some of them are almost in casting distance of the beach!

Avatar is pretty small but do send me some pics, I appreciate all hunting and fishing pictures. You can send them to larrysdd@bellsouth.net. I will leave this up a couple days until I hear you received it.

    thanks,
    Larry S.
